5 to 7 year investment...gold, silver or other?
I have about $50K to put away for 5 to 7 years and not touch. I will not have the opportunity to play with the investment. I am looking at gold, but feel it may cap out at $1500.00 and oz, but silver maybe $60.00 and oz or more. Silver is used in industry for batteries, solar panels and more. I believe it will become much more scare as technology finds more uses for it. Is there anything else to consider? More incite to why silver may be a good choice?
The most important information into this "formula" is what percentage of your portfolio is this $50,000.
You don't talk about your risk tolerance. There's too many unknowns.
If your portfolio total is under One Million dollars.......... your investment approach is terrible (downright scary). If your portfolio is over one million dollars........ you're just making a poor investment decision.... but Silver would make more sense than Gold (I assume you're using the ETF's SLV & GLD). If you're not using ETF's....... you are really not experienced enough to do this.
I wouldn't do what you're doing .... I'd put together a portfolio. Mostly made of good, low fee, no-load Mutual Funds. Investing with predictions of anything 5-7 years in the future is crazy. At least with a few good Mutual Funds..... the managers could make the moves needed as things change..... as they always do.
