The night was looming near
When past the windows clear
The steps of shoppers stomped so soft
Handed wallets, coins and coughed

Plastic wrapper crinkled, cried
Little boy, lips spread wide

The robot rasped a steely "Hi"

Green eyed boy, then waved his arms
Tugged his mother's paling palms
Please, he stared into her eyes
As she gave the last of dimes

She hugged the boy from colds of life
While they marched through cruels of ice
Into black’s December arms
Of winter's whitest charms

All was bleak, until the time
In the corner of her eye
She saw the light that brought her smile
For Death had made them both alive

And Life had hanged all in the aisle
